How do I sign up for the course?
For Schools
Schools within the GDST interested in offering this course next year should contact Bina Mistry at b.mistry@wes.gdst.net. She will be overseeing the course this year.
For Students
If you're a student interested in the course, please talk to your school's Head of Computer Science. If your school doesn't offer Computer Science, reach out to your Deputy Head of Academic Learning.
Do I need to know how to code before enrolling?
You'll need to have an interest in coding and this field of study. However, it's not necessary to have studied computer science at GCSE or A-level.
This course is designed to help students gain knowledge in coding. We offer introductory coding modules to ensure everyone has a strong foundation before moving on to more complex topics.
How much time will the course realistically take?
The course is structured to be flexible, allowing you to learn at your own pace. However, we recommend dedicating approximately 2 hours per week. The complete program typically takes around 6 months to finish if you follow the schedule.
Are the experiential days mandatory for the course?
Yes, the experiential days are mandatory as they are essential in bringing the course to life. The dates for these days have already been set, so please make sure to add them to your calendar. However, please be aware that travel expenses for these three days are not covered by the Trust.
How useful will this course be for me in the future?
This course is perfect for anyone wanting to work in STEM fields. You'll learn important concepts, gain practical skills, and get hands-on experience that employers appreciate. Plus, you'll connect with industry professionals and explore future career opportunities.
Can students who have enrolled on the course withdraw at any time?
Students should enrol in this course because they have a genuine interest. We understand that circumstances may arise where they find it challenging to manage their time or face difficulties. However, there is a deadline for withdrawing from the course. Schools must inform the Space Tech team by December at the latest. A considerable amount of effort goes into organising the experiential days, and we plan based on the number of enrolled students.
What kind of support is available during the course?
The course is designed to feel much like a university experience. You will participate in seminar-style lessons with your school teacher. Additionally, there is a learning portal available where you can find support materials and tasks.
You will also have access to online support through our in-house GDST programme team, ensuring you have all the assistance you need.
Will I receive a certificate upon completion?
Yes, when you successfully finish the program, you'll receive a certificate recognising your achievement and skill level. This certificate can be a valuable addition to your professional portfolio.
