Curriculum

Module 1

Imagery Analysis 

Students will learn how multi-dimensional arrays are used for processing imagery captured by satelites such as the James Webb. Other technology applications using similar imagery techniques will be explored including medical, defence and agriculture.

Students will connect their knowledge of the electromagnetic spectrum linear alegbra, and computer science by analysing read data captured by scientific instruments. 

Module 2

Machine learning & object detection

Students will learn how computers are trained to detect specific objects in satelite applications such as buildings, bridges, road and other landmarks, as well as astronomical objects such as nebulae, globular clusters and galaxies. Emerging technology applications where object detection is ultilised will be explored such as cancer detection and forward looking infrared cameras.

Module 3

Code and work with hardware like a professional - using Raspberry Pi's

Students will learn what is is like to work with hardware and code like a professional by emulating the James Webb Space Telescope. Their final project will bring together everything they've learned from earlier modules. They will spend time writing code for a satellite or other scientific devices to capture images and detect objects using onboard sensors from the Raspberry Pi.
